Crashed Skyhawk leaves doctor dead

Dr. Richard Sabatini, a local cardiac surgeon, and his wife died in a plane crash the evening of October 18. The crash happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. when a single-engine plane, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk, crashed in a field adjacent to the runway at Centerville Airport.
Centerville Airport is a small facility used by private pilots. Sabatini was able to get his aircraft off the ground, “but immediately after takeoff he radioed the tower saying he was having problems controlling the aircraft,” said Lt. Jack Feldman. The plane crashed shortly after the call to the control tower was made.
Jeff Belden, a member of the local Federal Aviation Administration, reported that at the point of takeoff there was sleet and a strong wind. According to Lt. Feldman, it is still unsure if the crash was weather related. According to the Visual Flight Rules (VFR), “the [Cessna 172 Skyhawk] is equipped for day VFR and may be equipped for night VFR.”
